
EAST COUNTY WIND WALKERS
MINUTES OF SEPTEMBER 10, 2009
In attendance were: Carol Cullison, Marilyn Barnhart, Marlene Looyens, Claudia Brooks, Cora Wegner, Regina Blake, Tammy McKinley, Bev Russell, Jean Jensen, Micheil-Ann Gill, and guest Evelyn Bloom.
President Micheil-Ann welcomed everyone. Everyone talked of their last walks.
1. Secretary’s Minutes. A motion was made by Jean to accept the minutes as given, and the motion was seconded by Claudia.
2. Treasurer’s Report. Claudia gave the treasurer’s report. There is a bank balance of $2,122.34 as of September 10, 2009. She said that the storage fee will be going up at the start of the new year. Marlene asked how much it would cost to have our unit on a lower level so it would be easier getting the tables, chairs, etc. out when we need them. Claudia said she would check into that. A motion was made by Regina to accept the treasurer’s report as given, and Bev seconded the motion.
3. OTSVA Report. The next OTSVA meeting is September 19, 2009, after the Parrett Mountain Farm Walk. Member accomplishments: Sharon Ducy – 13,000 km.
4. Happy Valley Hills and Hollows Walk. Claudia reported that they are done writing the instructions. They believe the instructions on Scouter’s Mountain are accurate and will be easy to follow. The walkers for the Scouter’s Mountain walk will sign up at the park. A sign-up sheet for workers was passed around.
5. Butler Creek Walk. The Butler Creek Walk is our new YRE. Claudia and Judy are the trailmasters. Jean and/or Susan said they would help Claudia with the walk, now that Judy has moved out of the area. Claudia is working on the directions, etc.
6. Confluence Project/Bird Blind/Sandy Delta Walk. Discussion was had about creating a walk there. The club will do a club walk there to see if a 10k can be created. The date of October 3 was selected for the club walk. Meet in the hospital lobby by the AVA box at 9:00 a.m. and we will carpool over to the walk.
7. Main City Park Walk. This walk has been postponed until 2011 due the work being done on Main City Park.
8. Workers Walk for Happy Hills and Hollows Walk. The workers walk for the Happy Valley Hills and Hollows Walk will be on Scouter’s Mountain on October 17 at 9:00. Meet at the Happy Valley Park located at 13770 SE Ridgecrest Way, Happy Valley, Oregon.
9. 2010 Boxkeepers. Micheil-Ann talked with Sharon and Susan. They both want to continue as boxkeepers. Cora has said she would like to give up her duties as boxkeeper. Tammy has volunteered to take responsibility for the walks that start at Adventist Hospital and Regina will take the walks that start at Gateway Fred Meyer. Micheil-Ann will check with the boxkeepers who are absent from tonight’s meeting.
Cora brought up a problem that occurred at the Wednesday Walk that started at the Gateway Fred Meyer. A table was brought and set up outside the entryway into Fred Meyer. This is against Fred Meyer policy and the manager of Fred Meyer talked with Cora about it. Discussion was had. The necessary phone calls will be placed to those who are involved with the Wednesday walking group.
10. Christmas Party. The Christmas party will be held on Friday, December 11. Ric offered the club house where he lives. Regina and Micheil-Ann looked at it, but decided it would be too small. Discussion was had, and Jean offered her home.
11. Officers 2010. Micheil-Ann said she would like to stay as president and secretary. She said the vice president position and the treasurer position are open. Jean asked what the responsibilities are for the vice president. Discussion was had. Jean said she was out of town too much to take the position. Regina said Ric offered to be vice president. Discussion was tabled until the next meeting when more club members would be present.
12. Questions and Comments. Regina said that Ric has talked with the City of Gresham Parks Commission about getting the city involved with the activities of our club. He would like someone to attend one of their meetings to present a short talk on Volkswalking and the ECWW. Regina has volunteered to attend the meeting and asked if anyone else would like to attend. Bev said she would like to go with Regina. The meeting will be the second Thursday night of October.
13. Springwater Trail Clean-up. Bev has signed up for the September trail clean-up.
14. Door prize. The door prize was provided by Bev and was won by Cora.
The meeting adjourned at 8:30 with everyone enjoying refreshments provided by Regina.
