2. Treasurer’s Report. Claudia gave the treasurer’s report. The bank balance as of June 11, 2009 is $1,233.88. A motion was made by Sharon to accept the treasurer’s report as given; Regina seconded the motion.
3. AVA/OTSVA Report. The next OTSVA meeting will be on July 18 after the Arts Walk, and it will be at the Sizzler. The Steering Committee will start at 11:30, and the OTSVA meeting will start at 1:00.
4. Walk Updates.
Gresham Arts Festival. Regina passed around the sign-up sheet. All permits are in. Brochures will be taken to some of the businesses in downtown Gresham. The workers walk is June 14 at 1:00, meeting at Gresham City Hall. Bev and Rebecca have organized a workers walk on July 14 at 1:00 for those who cannot do the walk on June 14.
Mt. Tabor Walk. Janet still needs some workers, especially the early morning trail check for the 5k. Janet has a list of all the activities that she will give to Marilyn. The start point will be at the 69th & Yamhill entrance. The directions are on the brochure. Parking is an issue, and you may have to be in the neighborhoods. They will have vendors selling food in the main parking lot. Janet made a motion that any donations collected from the walk be donated toward the park enhancement program that they will combine with the other proceeds they make from their celebration. Marilyn seconded the motion; a vote was taken, and the motion was carried. Janet will put a sign next to the frog indicating that the donations will be given to the park.
Happy Valley Hills & Hollows. Claudia said the 5k was wheeled for Scouters Mountain. The first draft of the brochure is done. Happy Valley is going to have a festival and that could be one of our challenges.
5. Business Items.
Summer Picnic. Regina talked with Ric and he has arranged for us to have the shelter all day and into the evening at no cost to the club. Regina will ask Ric to obtain a certificate/permit from the city to post at the shelter indicating that we have the shelter all day and evening. Discussion was had about the time for the picnic. It was agreed that the picnic would start at 6:00 p.m. The shelter does not have any grills, but we can bring in a grill or hibachi. Jean said she has a Weber portable grill that she can bring. Discussion was had about types of foods and what everyone would bring. It was agreed that hamburgers would be best. Claudia will purchase the hamburgers, buns and beverages, which the club will pay for. Regina will bring ketchup, mayo, mustard, and relish. Sharon will bring lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. Micheil-Ann will bring paper products and flatware. It was decided that the rest of the food would be provided by initials. A – G will bring salads, chips; H – L will bring side dishes; O – W will bring desserts.
6. New YRE.
Butler Creek Walk. Judy and Claudia will get together with Ric, and will organize the walk. The start point will be the Highland Safeway.
7. Hosted Events.
Ric wants to do a hosted event the first weekend in June, which would be the National Trails Day. It would be two routes, one is a 10k and one is a 5k. He has maps ready and will bring them to the Arts Festival Walk. Regina will get the actual date.
Discussion was had about developing a Sandy Delta Walk.
8. Updating/changing/deleting existing YREs. Discussion was had about the walks and bike events. Claudia did a comparison of the YREs. Jean suggested deleting our bike events since we haven’t had many people doing them, but Janet and Claudia pointed out that it’s not costing us anything to keep them, and most people do the bike events during the summer when the weather is better. We don’t have the figures yet for the second quarter of this year, so we need to hold off doing anything with the bike events at this time. Jean suggested contacting some of the biking clubs and shops to make sure they realize that we have the events. The bike routes are 25k. It was decided to keep the YREs that we have right now.
A committee was formed to work on walks. The committee is: Jean, Claudia, Regina, Micheil-Ann, Paul, Janet, Marlene, Sharon, Judy and Ric.
9. Questions and Comments.
Paul reminded us that the boxkeepers need to cut the plus signs off the stamps on July 1. Micheil-Ann will call Susan to remind her of this.
Micheil-Ann read a card received from Bev Herbert from Mt. Hood Hospital thanking Regina for attending the ground breaking ceremony of the Healing Gardens and thanking the Wind Walkers for their donation.
Paul suggested that we continue with our meetings during the summer because the club is busy with organizing walks, etc. Discussion was had. Micheil-Ann will check into the bylaws to see if there is any problem doing this. The July meeting will be at the July event. Regina will check with the hospital to see if we can have the room in August. Paul made a motion that we make our July meeting at the picnic and that we have an August meeting, same time, same place. Sharon seconded the motion. A vote was taken, and the motion passed.
Springwater trail cleanup for June is Regina and Micheil-Ann.
The door prize was donated by Marlene, and won by Dick.
The meeting adjourned at 8:00 p.m.
Duly submitted by President/Secretary Micheil-Ann Gill.
